Spreading the Gospel preached at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, TX

The news about a tragic church shooting in a small town in Texas quickly spread all over the world. Political pundits immediately tried to utilize the events to promote a certain political agenda. They did not even have to time to express any sympathy or empathy to the families affected in that church. As a believer in Jesus Christ I stand together with those in the body of Christ who hurt and undergo suffering. I cannot look the other way. Something that really grieves me about the tragic shooting inside a church is this question: How quick does bad news spread all over the world and causes reactions! But the Good News that this church is faithfully proclaiming and trying to get heard all around the world is not spreading that fast and does not get a reaction.

The human heart is sinful and totally depraved, the Bible says. Bad news in any form arouses a devilish sense of pleasure. So-called “Schadenfreude” is unchristian and a sin that must be confessed. The Bible says “Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.” Proverbs 17:5.

If it hadn’t been for a terrible shooting most people would not have known nor cared about a small town Baptist church in Texas. Now everybody knows.

But are you more excited about the bad news? Or do you actually care about the Good News of Jesus Christ that this church in Sutherland Springs, TX stands for. You will watch a 1-hour-news special. But will you also watch a one hour sermon and worship service from the church? You will listen to endless news reports about a church shooting, the depraved killer, gun legislation etc, but will you also listen with full attention to a sermon preached by pastor Frank Pomeroy?

Think about it!

In Mark 5 we read about how Jesus drove the demons into the swine and that herd of swine fell into the sea and was dead. The “bad news” about how those farmers lost their livelihoods spread fast: Mark 5:14. Look it up in the Scriptures. The sensational news spread fast and people came out quickly to gaze, to rubberneck and to ogle.

But they didn’t get the good news! The fact that Jesus delivered the maniac from demonic possession! These sorry people in Gadara were more concerned with the damage caused by the swine that they lost and did not care about the man that got delivered by the power of Jesus Christ! so they asked Jesus to leave.

That is so much like us today! Once people see that Christianity costs, they quit right away and ask Jesus to leave. People and corporations are freeloaders. Everybody wants freebies, presents, door prizes, payouts and goodies. But when our faith costs us something, will we be faithful?

As the world looks at a small Baptist church in Texas, we need to focus on the gospel of Jesus Christ. That He died for us on the cross to save us from sin. That the precious blood of Jesus reconciles us to God and cleanses us from all sin. Salvation by grace through faith. That is what the world needs to hear now! Lives can be saved  – not with legislation – but with the redemptive work of Jesus Christ through His death, burial and resurrection.

Therefore, I want to share the link to the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, TX.

Wouldn’t this be a good time for an encouraging note to that church? Just imagine the burden on that pastor down there! Pray for him  that God gives him wisdom and strength. Would you want to be that pastor now? With all these funerals? With all the grief? With all the fears?

Wouldn’t that be a good time to encourage that church simply with a good offering? I sent them an offering before I started writing this article.

In honor of the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, TX and in honor of those families affected and, most of all, in honor of our Lord Jesus Christ I want to share regularly from now on some preaching from that church here on www.solidrockfaith.com. I want to let the world hear the good news that comes from that church by sharing its sermons here online and through my social media. Let this world hear the preaching from a small Baptist church in Texas. I tell you if there is ever going to be a revival in America again it won’t start in a sinner-friendly, NIV-toting, trendy mega-church. NOOO! It’s gonna start in the old-time, old-fashioned country churches that love the King James Bible, hold on to their old hymn book and hold on to the old-fashioned Christian handshake and mourner’s bench, hold on to the shouting, getting happy and praising God. Revival is gonna come by the old-time way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hallelujah and glory to God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Revival ain’t gonna come from selling out to this world but from staying sold out to the Lord. Die-hard stick-to-itiveness to the old time way is first and foremost duty of the local church this day and age.

Here I am to share with your in the next couple of days some sermons and links from this small church in Texas. For a long time it has been my prayer that just like John the Baptist approached Herod in his day, so a country preacher from a little Baptist church will get to speak to the world leaders and straighten them out and reason with them about righteousness, judgment and temperance (Acts 24:25).

Here is a good sermon where we will start reasoning right now:

How a Thief Can Live Forever, Luke 23
