Happy 105th Birthday Ronald Reagan!

Today would have been the 105th birthday of former US President Ronald Wilson Reagan. This is a day where I just want to sit down and watch one of his great classic western movies. Forgive me, but I am stuck forever in the old-school America. I am glad Ronald Reagan was a defender of religious liberty like hardly any other president.

Some of the things he said in his administration and in his diaries should really be an eye-opener for people today as they head to the polls in 2016. But this message is not about an election. Daily we live the Christian life as we are led by the Holy Ghost of God and serve our Savior Jesus Christ.

Ronald Reagan was able to explain to the world what true religious liberty meant: “Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant, and the rule of law under God is acknowledged.” He knew that life without God would become flat and trite as we see people march off in the modernday urban chaos of sin, the daily grind and a completely horizontal life with no vertical connection to Christ.

Reagan warned us of the Post-Christian Disease of a society seduced by secular humanism: “Without God,” he said, “there is no virtue, because there’s no prompting of the conscience. Without God, we’re mired in the material, that flat world that tells us only what the senses perceive. Without God, there is a coarsening of the society. And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure.” We saw this coarsening of society as the rainbow flag of sin lit up the White House when the Supreme Court ruled to legalize gay marriage. At the same time the Confederate flag was ripped down to appease violent mobs screaming “Black Lives Matter”. Well, if they do matter, then get onboard to defund Planned Parenthood because they were founded by a racist Hitler-admiring woman who hated black people. If black lives matter, then join the pro-life, pro-family, pro-marriage Christian community because I grieve over all the black lives ruined by abortion, divorce, gangs, violence, absent fathers, godless rap music that exalts crime, profanity and perversion. Unborn lives matter. Christian lives matter. Every life matters. Quit splitting society into class wars. That socialist poison must be driven out of the USA in Jesus name.

Ronald Reagan comes from the old days when the word “gay” meant as much as “joyful” and not “sodomite” or “homosexual”. Ronald Reagan comes from those old days when his fellow actor Roy Rogers sang “The Gay Ranchero” back in the 1940s in the movie of the same name. The word back then did not suggest or assinuate to any form of sexual sin. It simply meant “happy”. Back then  a gay marriage was a happy marriage between one man and one woman. They did not pervert words back then like people do now. We must reject the life without God. Without God we are without hope and without eternal life. But with God all things are possible.

Folks, let us not get mired in the material. If all you do is care about free stuff, your iphone and satisfaction of carnal desires you are living the wrong way. You are left behind in a flat world. Surely some folks could use some prompting of their conscience.

Reagan understood that religious freedom and Christian morality were necessary to keep America strong and to ensure that liberty will be used to serve one another in love and not for selfishness, self-expression and license. I think Reagan knew that the founders were aware that liberty would end if people fell away from Christian morality. John Adams warned in 1798: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” In order to preserve a nation from within and to increase national security and prosperity, people have to be moral and religious. Being religious without any morals won’t help. And there will be no morals without the true religion of Jesus Christ.

Therefore, Reagan understood that the idea of “separation of church and state” was nowhere to be found in the Constituion. “When our Founding Fathers passed the First Amendment, they sought to protect churches from government interference. They never intended to construct a wall of hostility between government and the concept of religious belief itself.” We cannot import socialist or atheist concepts into the US by camouflaging them as ideas of the Founding Fathers by misquoting statements from their private correspondence.

Nobody like Ronald Reagan could explain religious freedom under the First Amendment any better than that: “We establish no religion in this country, nor will we ever. We command no worship. We mandate no belief. But we poison our society when we remove its theological underpinnings. We court corruption when we leave it bereft of belief. All are free to believe or not believe; all are free to practice a faith or not. But those who believe must be free to speak of and act on their belief, to apply moral teaching to public questions.”
