The Christian Farmer Who Said Enough Is Enough

Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Rom 6:13.

We cannot serve two masters, the Lord says. We cannot serve the Lord and be involved in secular pop culture. A Christian farmer recently had to stand alone and chose to honor God.

A secular rock musician was recording a video for a new sung in a barley field near Bangor in Northern Ireland and removed her clothing to expose her body in a bikini, when Alan Graham, 61, pulled up in his tractor and told the singer to cover up and later claimed: “Her behaviour was inappropriate.” The sight became too much for Mr Graham’s Christian beliefs and he politely asked the filming to stop. Mr. Graham did what is right instead of remaining silent with an apathetic “I don’t care”-attitude. Genuine Bible-believers are people who do care about everything God lays on their heart and speaks to them about in His holy word.

The father of four, a member the Democratic Unionist Party on North Down Borough council, said today: “She understood where I was coming from. We shook hands and parted company on good terms.” That is Christian character. Kind, helpful but also firm about convictions without false compromises.

Mr Graham had agreed that one of his fields could be used for yesterday’s recording but was not aware what the production team had in mind for the pop superstar when they moved to an adjoining piece of land. Earlier he had used his tractor to help pull free some recording equipment which got stuck in mud. He also helped fill in a hole with some of his straw.

He said today: “I realised things had got to a stage which were not acceptable to me, Things became inappropriate and I asked the film crew to stop. “I never heard of Rihanna until someone called me requesting the use of my land. I knew on Monday who she was. Someone explained she was as big as it gets as far as pop stars were concerned. I am a bit illiterate about those issues. .. If someone wants to borrow my field and things become inappropriate, then I say: ‘Enough is enough. You are not entitled to do that’.

“There was no firm arrangement about borrowing the field. Everybody was done on an ad hoc basis. My expectations were not made clear to him (the man who requested use of the field), and everything that was going to take place was not made clear to me. To be fair to the people involved in asking for the field, I don’t think they were aware either of what would take place.” The unsuspecting farmer was not aware that standards in popular music that deveives a generation of young people dropped so low that people accept it that pop stars run around almost naked in public. God gave us clothing to cover our nakedness because of decency and necessity of moral restraint in order to live as free people. Only in pagan worship do people dance around naked such as the children of Israel did when they forsook the Lord and worshipped the golden calf.

All of us need to take a stand for right and use the Bible – not popular opinion – as our standard to determine when enough is enough. This goes for all aspects and areas of life whether it is proper music, clothing, life skills & habits, business practices, church practices etc. In all things the rule of Christ has preeminence over what others say, think or suppose.

Maybe you run a store and need to remove certain magazines out of the rack and into the trash. Maybe you run a gas station and you need to clean up the shelves and rid them of the ungodly. Maybe you run a restaurant and need to change the music that is played in the background. There’s lots of work ahead of us. Charity doth not behave itself unseemly. Therefore, we stand against all the improper, unseemly and unappropriate. Who teaches our children what is seemly and right in the sight of God? Are they doing that at the magnet high school? I know they used to do it at the one-room country schoolhouse 80 years ago. I am not so sure about today because Americans have failed to rid the humanism out of their political and social system that has come out of the liberal European institutions. Even in 2011 we do well to reread that 1986 classic book “The Rebirth of America” by the Arthur S. DeMoss Foundation.  That’s also a good study book for Sunday School.

May God bless this Christian farmer and use His example to inspire all of us. May this pop singer come under conviction and repent, believe the gospel and follow Christ’s commands. Let us as Bible-believers speak up when things get inappropriate. We need to protect children from the wicked porno plague that comes along with the pop music culture. Such things are unseemly, inappropriate and should not be once named among us.
