Many people don’t know better and seek to “get high” on drugs in order to “feel better” but they end up in a horrible bondage of self-deception, addiction and crime that wrecks their lives, their families and their health. Isn’t it interesting to know that Almighty God is being referred to in the Bible as “the most high God” or “the Highest”? Then why would anybody want to “get high” for a passing moment when we can have a personal encounter with the Highest, who loves us and gave His Son Jesus Christ so that we can be saved, forgiven and delivered from the power of sin?
Scripture Lesson: For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him that also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Isaiah 57:15.
Principle: There is no highness without holiness! The only way to the high and holy place is not by “getting high” on narcotics but by becoming humble before the Highest. People need to realize that Jesus, not drugs, is the answer to their need.
Here is why “getting high” on drugs won’t work:
We are talking about the abuse of substances altering natural bodily functions to create false euphoria or hallucinations resulting in addiction, dependance, illness and many times an untimely death. The drug abuser cheats himself by creating a temporary false emotional “high” but soon will be let down and burn out only to enter the vicious cycle again and take another shot, another buzz or whatever you call this form of partaking in sin. The Bible calls it the sin of witchcraft (Greek: pharmakeia) or sorcery, which is a work of the flesh (Gal. 5:20). Thus, these drugs are taken to manipulate the carnal mind, which is enmity against God for it is not subject to His law (Romans 8:7). We quickly realize what the problem is: Man apart from God is an empty being without hope. In order to drown out the hopelessness of the godless life he fills the inner emptiness with alocohol, tobacco or the more wicked drugs that totally destroy body functions and mess up the mind. Intoxication with any kind of stuff is wrong. We need to be filled with the Holy Ghost! The Bible says: “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.” Eph. 5:18.
Be Full Of God
Don’t fill your mind, soul and spirit with the unholy things of this world. Your system should not be full of drugs. Fill your mind with Scriptures. Fill your body with healthful food. Fill your sprit with prayer and and singing of spritual songs! Be full of God. I pray for you that your inside is filled with God. I pray that wonderful prayer recorded in Ephesians 3:14-21 where it says: “that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, .. to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” Would you read the complete prayer in your Bible? We could spend hours explaining what the fulness of God is. Are you filled with God by having Christ dwell in your heart by way of the Holy Ghost? We need to be indwelt by the Holy Gost and not intoxicated with poison. Why would anybody poison himself by smoking dried leaves or powder substances that were imported by criminals and grown by Muslim or communist terrorists?
Care for the Body
Your body is a gift from God and you should treat it as such. In fact, the body is the temple of Holy Ghost! Here is what God says about it: “Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body … Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? … Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body, but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” Read all of 1. Cor. 6:12-20! Drug abuse is also a sin against the body just like sexual sin. Are you glorifying God when you abuse substances and overdose on pills? Why are you destroying God’s property – your spirit and body – by a slow suicide of injecting or inhaling poison into your system? In the Bible, Judas the thief and traitor committed suicide when his guilty conscience plagued him after his false repentance. Ahithopel the traitor committed suicide. The failed, disobedient and selfish king Saul committed suicide. We can avoid that circumstance altogether by getting humble before the Highest, genuinely repenting of our sin and asking God to save our soul and deliver us from sin. Then we can have victory over sin. Then we can have forgiveness of sin and receive a new nature that will be obedient to God’s command. Let us make sure you have experienced that.
Body Under Subjection
Take your Bible and study 1 Cor. 9:25-27! What does it say about temperance and keeping our body under subjection? The cravings of the body should not dictate our lives. Our spirit needs to have power over the body. Those who manipualte their body with substance abuse violate that principle. We should not yield our bodies to sin and come in bondage to that sin. With drug abuse we sin against our own body. Please study that in Romans 6:12-23. We don’t allow sin to have dominion over us.
Do Good To Your Soul
“The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.” Proverbs 11:17.
A merciful person will not trouble his body with substance abuse. A pregnant mother does cruelty to herself and her unborn child, if she consumes drugs. We need to do what is good for our soul. We should not deprive ourselves or our families and children of God. Many people deprive themselves of prayer time, Bible meditation or church worship. They are basically committing cruelty to their soul by boycotting what God is actually doing in this world. We need to cooperate and participate in what God is doing and get with His plan as revealed in the Scriptures. The Bible is medicine for the soul! The joy of salvation which comes by the indwelling Holy Ghost gives the heart a lasting peace and joy (Romans 14:17) that no drugs can ever bring about.
More Sin Leading to Failure
The sale, possession and consumption of drugs of any kind (marijuana, cocaine, meth, oxycodone ….. you name it) is not only a sin against God and against the body. One sin usually leads to another sin. Sin festers! So there are drug-relates sins often leading to crime. The sale of drugs is motivaed by greed, usury, covetousness and the love of money. It leads to all kinds of stealing, lying or even murder. It destroys families. Rebellious teens disobey parents and become totally alienated from everything that is righteous and godly. The drug culture leads to failed lives and ultimately failed nations such as Afghanistan, Nicaragua, Colombia or now Mexico where drug gangs rule and unleash a reign of terror. Will America end up as a failed nation because a generation did not learn to remain sober and temperate and pursue the old paths that those early godly Americans once tread? The problem with sin is that it will take you farther than you wanted to go and it will cost you more than you were willing to pay. The only way to break the vicious cycle of sin is by getting humble before Jesus Christ, the Son of the Highest (Luke 1:32, 35, 76) and acknowledging Him as your Lord and Savior. My friend, if you read this and you are not saved, then stop reading now and get it settled with God. Repent of your sin and ask Jesus to save you until you know in your heart that you possess true salvation. Write me and let me know if you need help or just got saved.
Prospering Health and Soul
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth”. 3 John 2. When people are sick, we wish for them to get well. We spend billions of dollars for healthcare. Christians pray for the sick and ask God for healing. The elders of the church anoint the sick with oil and pray for the sick church member to be raised up. James 5:14,15. With all of this in mind we should never in any form partake of the drug subculture even if the government were to legalize some forms of drug abuse such as marijuana. We as believers pray for the salvation and prosperity of the heath and soul of others. We want people to be healthy and holy! The Bible teaches us healthy and holy life habits and we need to teach those habits in our churches. The Bible calls on us to be sober, to be discreet and to be sober-minded. Our mind should not be “messed up” with drugs. We want for people to be saved and sanctified and not to be “stoned”. Please count in the Bible how many times Jesus commands us to be sober! We should not be under the influence of any mind-altering, mood-enhancing substances. One of the fruit of the Holy Ghost is temperance (Gal. 5:22,23) which is defined as “patience, calmness, restrained or moderate indulgence, self-control”. To be sober means to be free from intoxication, inordinate passion or overheated imagination, gravity without sadness or melancholy. The Bible teaches temperance and sobriety. That is Christian character. The drug culture turns people into the opposite. Satan seemingly destroys the mind, will and emotions of those who are drugged, stoned or high on something. In Titus 2 we read that women are to be discreet and men to be sober-minded. That is the proper goal in life we need to pursue. We can do it when we are born again by the grace of God and follow the commands of Christ.
Many young people end up in a life of drugs because of negative peer pressure. Often we find ourselves being influenced by the opinions and expectations of others around us in school, in our neighborhood or even in online communities. We forget to first check what God has to say about the issue. We should not have any fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness. We are not to partake of them, but rather need to reprove them (read Eph. 5:7-18). We all need to learn this one lesson that Jesus teaches: It is part of life to suffer rejection or ridicule from other in some situations. Jesus even commands us to rejoice when we are ridiculed for righteousness’ sake. Mt. 5:11,12. It is never right to seek the approval of the wrong crowd! When it comes to drugs we need to let them know our sharp disapproval. We don’t participate. We don’t demand them! We say no! When it comes to righteousness we need to be prepared to stand alone! Sooner or later there comes a situation that forces you to decide if you will obey God or “follow the crowd.” Then we must uphold rigteousness for the glory of God. You can study the many situations in the Bible that display the courage of people who stood alone such as Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Abraham, the Apostles and many more. I suggest you study about their character in the Bible. In like manner do we need to stand alone when we come in contact with people who possess, buy or sell drugs. Blessed is the man who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly (Ps. 1:1). Does anybody tempt you or talk you into drugs? My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path, for their feet run to evil … go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. Proverbs 1:15,16 & 4:14,15. Do they offer you drugs? Offer them a gospel tract! If you don’t want to hand the wicked crowd a gospel tract, then pass their mailing address to me. I will take care of it. We as believers have no demand for drugs. There is a crime-ridden market of drug trafficking across the US that goes back to Mexico and from there to many other failed states where guerilla groups fund acts of terror with the profits of the dirty drug trafficking. This market is also ruled by the principle of supply and demand. Why are so many drugs supplied over the Mexican border into the US? Because of the demand for them. Once people get right with God, however, they will demand righteousness instead of unrighteousness. That means if true conversions take place and people live the life of Christian discipleship, then the demand for drugs will disappear and the entire drug market is going to collapse like a house of cards. To this end we pray and work in Jesus name. I thank the Lord that I have never had any form of demand for any kind of drugs. I have never met a person in my life who would offer me any kind of drugs. If so, I would turn the person over to the police or witness to that person about the Lord Jesus. If more people had the same convictions, guess what would happen? Nobody would want to pay for drugs to be trafficked from anywhere. Groups such as the Taliban in Afghanistan would be defunded since they are funded with heroin profits. South America and Asia would look differently and probably would be more open to the gospel and free of failed terror regimes if they got out of producing drug plants due to lack of demand. For that to happen, more people need to stand alone and renounce the sin of drug abuse.
Complete in Christ
If Christ dwells in our heart by faith we are complete in Christ (Col 2:10). Christ is our peace and His love is real. Drugs only offer a false sense of comfort or relief, but all they do is deceive our imagination and leave us depressed until we buy more of the poison. But Christ abides in us and will not forsake or fail us. The Bible says that the Lord has given us all things that pertain unto life and godliness (2 Pe. 1:3,4). When we have Jesus, we have it all. But if you miss Jesus, then you have missed it all! If you have Jesus, then He will give you all things you need for a life that is pleasing to God. You won’t have to seek the sinful pleasure of drugs. The Bible warns about a generation that loves pleasure more than God. Don’t be one of them! Love God with all of your heart, soul, mind and bodily strength, then you won’t have the slightest demand for the drug subculture that infiltrates even many rural areas of the US. We are called to present our bodies a living sacrifice to God (Romans 12:1,2). Then we don’t have occasion to give our bodies over to drugs. If you have a drug problem, please tell it to Jesus now and let Him save and deliver you. Feel free to click on Contact and write us at solidrockfaith.com for help. You are welcome to ask questions about the above mentioned Scriptures and please tell us if the Lord saved you or delivered you from drug bondage. Humble yourself before the Highest, the most high God, so you won’t have to get “high” on the unholy things of this world.
